Saddar, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, is the main commercial hub of Rawalpindi Cantonment. It is located between the Mall road and the main Railway lines . connecting Rawalpindi with down-country. It has some major business and commercial centres, main branches of major Pakistani banks and residential areas of British colonial era. The northern part of Saddar is more congested because it is residential as well as commercial. Chota Bazaar is a famous shopping area of northern part of Saddar.
Population
It has a population of around 200,000 which includes a majority of Punjabis/Pothoharis and a minority of Urdu speaking Mohajirs, Kashmiris and Pathans.
Major roads
Bank Road
Formerly called Edwards Road, it originates from the Mall road and ends at the Railway road. It runs parallel to the Mall road and has been named so because the National Bank of Pakistan [1] is situated on it. The road is known mainly for markets with garment shops. Gakkhar Plaza is a prominent shopping center on this road.
Haider Road
It is also parallel to the Mall Road and known for banks, photo copiers’ shops and handicrafts’ outlets. Its old name is Lawrence Road and it connects Murree Road with Railway Road.
Kashmir Road
This road originates from the Mall Road and hits Murree Road at Mareer Chowk. It is famous for garments shops, market for automobile spare parts, meat and poultry market and a tailors' shops for ladies' clothes. Its previous name was Dalhousie Road. General Post Office (GPO) of Pakistan Post [2] is an important land mark on Kashmir road.
Canning Road
This road connects Adamjee Road with the Mall Road.
Harding Road
Adamjee Road
This road originates from the Mall Road and curves west wards to end at the Kashmir Road. Ministry of Defence offices are situated on this road.
Police Station Road
Railway Road
Connects Mall Road with the railway station.

Recent happenings
On 20 December 2008, Gakhar Plaza, the famous shopping centre of Saddar Rawalpindi, was completely gutted down by a huge fire. The Plaza was owned by Raja Shahid Zafar, a leader of Pakistan Peoples Party and a former member of the National Assembly.
